Sharing in your meeting app

How to share the Curtains Presenter window in Google Meet, Zoom, Teams, a Slack huddle and other meeting apps.

On this page

Curtains works in any meeting app that can share a window: you share Curtains Presenter once, and Curtains changes what’s in it.

The idea

Your meeting app doesn’t know about Curtains. It sees one ordinary window, named Curtains Presenter, the same as any other app’s window. So you:

  1. Open Curtains Presenter, by going Live in Curtains Studio. See Drafts and Go Live.
  2. In your meeting app, choose to share a window, not your entire screen, and pick Curtains Presenter.

Sharing a window shows only that window. Sharing your entire screen shows everything on it, which defeats the point.

Curtains Studio isn’t in that list. By default, Curtains hides Studio, the floating remote and its outlines from screen capture while you share (Live or Paused) and while it detects a call. See Screenshots and screen sharing.

You can pick Curtains Presenter before you pick any windows. With Open Curtains Presenter at launch on, the default, it’s already open behind your windows, blank. Viewers see only the canvas background until you pick windows and go Live.

You only share once per call. After that, add windows, switch layouts, draw, blur and pause from Studio, and the meeting keeps showing the same window.

Keep Curtains Presenter available

Curtains Presenter opens behind Studio. That’s fine: meeting apps can share a window that’s covered by others. Three things stop them:

  • Minimizing it. A minimized window can’t be captured.
  • Hiding Curtains with Command H. That hides every Curtains window, including Curtains Presenter. Click Curtains in the Dock to show it again.
  • Making it small. If you resize it smaller than the output size, viewers get a lower-resolution picture. Leave it at its size, or move it to a second display.

Curtains warns you with a message in Studio in each case, such as The Curtains Presenter window is minimized, so your meeting app can’t capture it. Restore it to keep sharing.

Zoom

  1. In Zoom, click Share.
  2. Choose Window.
  3. Pick Curtains Presenter, then click Share.

Google Meet

  1. In Meet, click Present now.
  2. Choose A window.
  3. Pick Curtains Presenter, then click Share.

Microsoft Teams

  1. In Teams, click Share.
  2. Choose Window.
  3. Pick Curtains Presenter.

Slack huddles

  1. In the huddle, click Share screen.
  2. Choose Window.
  3. Pick Curtains Presenter.

Webex and Discord

Curtains recognizes calls in Webex and Discord, so Curtains Presenter is ready for them too. Both ask you to pick what to share:

  1. Click the button to share your screen or content.
  2. Choose the option that lists individual windows, not your whole screen. In Discord it’s on the Applications tab.
  3. Pick Curtains Presenter.

When Studio can’t tell which meeting app you’re in, its guide says Share a window, then Curtains Presenter.

A card above the preview, “Share it in your meeting,” reading “In your meeting app: Share a window, then Curtains Presenter,” with a note that Curtains Presenter can stay behind Studio and a close button.

The Share it in your meeting card

Studio can show you these steps itself. In a session that starts Paused, such as one started from a combo, a hotkey or at login, a card named Share it in your meeting appears above the preview. It names the meeting app Curtains detected and gives its clicks.

A card above the preview, “Share it in your meeting,” reading “In Google Meet: Present now, then A window, then Curtains Presenter,” with a note that Curtains Presenter can stay behind Studio and a close button.

The card shows until you go Live for the first time since Curtains started, and only in your first few sessions. Click its × to stop it for good. After you go Live from a draft, the line under the preview carries the reminder instead.

If you don’t see Curtains Presenter

  • It isn’t open yet. It opens when Curtains starts, when Curtains detects your call, or when you click Go Live. If you closed it, or turned off Open Curtains Presenter at launch, go Live, then open your meeting app’s picker again.
  • Your meeting app can’t see windows. macOS gives Screen Recording permission to each app separately, so your meeting app needs its own permission to list other apps’ windows. If it lists no windows at all, check System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen Recording for the meeting app, not for Curtains.
