What's new in Curtains

Every release of the app, newest first.

Curtains 1.0.5

New

  • Hide a single window from Sources, not just its whole app. A window’s ⋯ menu now offers Hide this window, which tucks just that one into Hidden while its other windows stay in the list; Show window brings it back. It lasts until you quit Curtains, and nothing is shared or blurred.

Changed

  • Sharing is sharper by default: the output resolution is now 1440p (was 1080p), closer to what a native screen share looks like. Change it anytime in Settings › Presenter. Your existing choice is kept.

Curtains 1.0.4

New

  • Curtains Presenter opens blank when Curtains starts, so it’s already in your meeting app’s share list before you pick any windows. Ending a share makes it blank again instead of closing it. Turn it off in Settings › Presenter with Open Curtains Presenter at launch.
  • Sources shows only work apps by default: browsers, terminals, code editors, and office, docs and design apps. Everything else waits in Hidden at the bottom. This is now free on every plan, and it replaces Pro’s automatic hiding of password managers and messaging apps.
  • Settings › Apps in Sources (was Hidden apps) shows what’s hidden and why, lets you show or hide any app, and has a Reset for each choice.
  • When a share ends and Curtains hid an app you had open, Studio tells you, once a day at most. You can change it in Settings or turn the notice off.

Changed

  • Automatic screenshot hiding now follows sharing (Live or Paused) or a call, not Curtains Presenter just being open.
  • Add hidden is now Prepare. It still adds a window blurred, ready to reveal.
  • A window with any blur or fill never shows its title to viewers.

Fixed

  • Hide from this list in a Sources row’s menu works again.

Curtains 1.0.3

New

  • A simpler floating remote: Layout, Draw and Blur along the top, then one big button to pause sharing or go Live, and Open Studio. Undo, Focus and End share are in its ⋯ menu.
  • Separate downloads for Apple silicon and Intel Macs, each less than half the size of before. Curtains updates itself to the right one.

Fixed

  • A window title no longer shows to viewers when the whole window is blurred or covered.
  • Curtains’ own menus and tooltips stay out of your share and screenshots.
  • The waiting Presenter no longer closes by itself when you clear a draft during a call.
  • One unreadable setting no longer resets all your settings, including your hidden apps.
  • After you deactivate a device, a renewal that was already on its way no longer turns Pro back on.
  • An expired activation link now tells you so, instead of doing nothing.
  • On Windows, drawing shows up as soon as you pick a pen.

Curtains 1.0.2

New

  • Curtains now shows up in your screenshots, and hides itself automatically during calls and while you share. You can change this in Settings.
  • Custom backgrounds and overlays with Pro: your own colours, gradients, background images and a logo or frame on top.

Changed

  • Boost and Focus are now one Focus: it makes a window the big one, and in Grid, Follow and Freeform it fills the canvas until you unfocus.
  • Anonymous usage stats, on by default outside the EU, UK and Switzerland; off in Settings anytime. They show which features you use, never what’s on your screen, window titles or app names, and carry a random ID that isn’t linked to your email or account. Curtains asks before sending anything: in the EU, the UK and Switzerland they stay off unless you say yes. Turn them off under Settings > Privacy & updates.

Curtains 1.0.1

New

  • Go Live from a set-up draft. After picking and arranging windows, Go Live opens Curtains Presenter already Live, with your blur in place from the first frame. Start Paused still applies to combos, hotkeys and sessions started at login.
  • Pick a layout before any window. The draft starts in it.
  • Bring a shared window to the front from Studio or the menu bar. It’s on each preview tile (hover, or press F), the Layout and Sources rows, the window’s highlight tab and the menu bar menu. Your layout doesn’t change.
  • Fit all windows to the layout in one click, or automatically. Fit all windows and Restore all are in the Layout panel and the layout menu. A new setting, off by default, fits windows whenever the layout changes and leaves alone any window you resize yourself.
  • While Live, the side panel tucks away. Open it from the rail anytime.

Improved

  • Settings are organised into sections, with search.
  • You can turn off the Go Live reminder (the banner in Studio and the pulsing Live button on the floating remote) in Settings, under Calls.
  • The “Shared with Curtains” badge is larger and easier to read, on light and dark themes alike.
  • The preview’s title bar matches Live and Paused. In a draft or while Paused, Studio’s preview no longer shows the LIVE label.
  • The window toolbar stays clickable while drawing, even when it sits over a large window.
  • Hiding an app from Sources is now in the row’s menu, with Undo. Add hidden stays on the row and shares the window blurred. In the Hidden section, Unhide is now Show in list.

Changed

  • Hiding password managers and messaging apps automatically is now part of Pro and the trial. Hiding apps by hand stays free.

Curtains 1.0.0

The first release of Curtains, for macOS. Windows is coming.

New

  • One canvas for several apps. Pick up to 6 windows and Curtains arranges them in a single window, Curtains Presenter, that you share once in any meeting app. Nothing else on your screen, notifications included, reaches the canvas.
  • Change what you share mid-call. Add, remove and reorder windows while the meeting app’s share keeps running.
  • Four layouts: grid, focus + filmstrip, follow active window, and free. Switch between them with a shortcut.
  • Focus boost briefly enlarges one window, then puts your layout back exactly as it was.
  • Menus and dialogs show up. Dropdowns, context menus and dialogs from a shared app appear on the canvas on top of it.
  • Your cursor on the canvas, with an optional highlight when you click.
  • Drawing with a pen, highlighter, arrow or laser pointer, in six colors. Ink fades by default, or stays until you clear it.
  • Blur part of a window, or the whole window, so a private detail never reaches viewers. Solid fill is available as well.
  • Tools under each shared window for drawing and blur, right where you’re working.
  • Starts Paused. Viewers see a holding card while you set up. Go Live when it looks right, and switch back to Paused whenever you need a private moment.
  • A live preview in Curtains Studio shows the real canvas, exactly as viewers will see it.
  • Shared windows are outlined on your desktop, with a tab for quick actions, so you always know what’s on the canvas. Only you see them.
  • Fit a window to its spot on the canvas, or size it 1:1 for the sharpest text, and restore its size afterward.
  • Call detection. When you join a call, Curtains Presenter opens in the background so it’s ready in your meeting app’s share list. The check happens on your computer and nothing is recorded.
  • Menu bar icon (notification area on Windows) with the call status and Go Live / Pause. Curtains keeps running there when you close Studio.
  • Floating remote with Live / Paused, layout, drawing and blur controls while Studio isn’t in front.
  • Screen combos save a set of windows with its layout and blur, and bring it back in one click.
  • Canvas themes, and a light or dark Studio.
  • The “Shared with Curtains” badge, which Pro users can turn off.
  • Plans: Free for up to 2 apps at a time, plus Pro, Lifetime and Pro for teams. Every install starts with 14 days of Pro. Your plan is checked on your device.
  • Update checks, which you can turn off in settings.
  • macOS: signed with a Developer ID. Curtains asks for Screen Recording permission one prompt at a time, and shows up in System Settings so you can turn it on.

Stop the screenshare dance

Your next call can start with the right windows already in the share.
