# Billing and renewals

> How yearly Pro, Lifetime and refunds work, how to renew, and how to cancel.

Source: https://curtains.app/help/billing-and-renewals/

Pro and Pro for teams are billed once a year and Lifetime is paid once, and your account page on curtains.app is where you handle receipts, cancelling and seats.

## How you pay

You pay through Stripe, which acts as the seller and handles sales tax and VAT. Curtains never sees your card.

- **Pro:** one payment a year.
- **Lifetime:** one payment, ever. There is nothing to renew.
- **Pro for teams:** one payment a year, per seat, with 3 seats minimum.

There is no monthly plan.

## Receipts, payment method and cancelling

Open **Manage billing** on [curtains.app/account](https://curtains.app/account/). It opens Stripe's billing portal, where you can:

- Download receipts.
- Change your payment method.
- Cancel your subscription.
- Add seats, on a team plan.

To get there from Studio, click **Manage account** on the Account page, then **Manage billing**. Only the person who pays sees it. A person who joined a team doesn't, because the team owner manages billing.

## Cancel Pro

## 1. Open Manage billing

Sign in at curtains.app/account and click **Manage billing**.

## 2. Cancel in the portal

Cancel your subscription there. Your account page then says "Works until" with a date, and "It won't renew."

Pro keeps working until the end of the period you paid for. Then Curtains is on Free. Your settings, combos and themes stay. See [Plans](https://curtains.app/help/plans/).

## Renewing Pro

Curtains checks your plan with a pass saved on each Mac, without going online. At the end of the paid period, the pass needs refreshing.

- Studio's rail item changes to **Renew**, and the Account page says "Renewal was due" with a date.
- Pro keeps working for 14 more days after the paid period ends. The Account page shows the date, like "Pro keeps working until November 6, 2026. Then Curtains is on Free until you renew; your settings and combos stay."
- Click **Renew**. Your browser opens the activation page, which says **Renew this Mac**. If you're still signed in, it is one click, and Curtains comes back with a fresh pass.

*Image: Studio's Account page when a pass needs renewing: a Pro card with a Renew pill, “Renewal was due October 23, 2026,” “Pro keeps working until November 6, 2026,” and the buttons Renew, Manage account, Deactivate this device and Paste pass.*

If you don't renew in time, Curtains is on Free until you do. Renew each device you use. See [Activate a device](https://curtains.app/help/activate-a-device/).

## Renew automatically

If you'd rather not click Renew, turn on **Renew my pass automatically**. It is off by default.

*Image: A switch row on the Account page: “Renew my pass automatically. Once a day after your renewal date, Curtains renews your pass with curtains.app. Off: Curtains never contacts curtains.app, and you renew in your browser.” The switch is off.*

With it on, Curtains renews your pass once a day after your renewal date, until it is renewed or refused. It sends your pass's renewal token, this Mac's device ID and the app version to `api.curtains.app`, and nothing else.

You find the switch on the Account page and in **Settings › Privacy & updates**. It applies to yearly passes only, so it is unavailable with Lifetime. With it off, Curtains never contacts curtains.app.

A refused renewal leaves your pass working until it runs out. Renewal is refused when the subscription ended, was refunded, or the device was removed.

## Refunds

Stripe sells Curtains as the merchant of record, so refunds follow its process: Stripe may refund a payment within 60 days in certain cases. Ask [Link support](https://support.link.com/topics/sold-through-link), or email us from the address on your Curtains account and say which plan. Beyond Stripe’s policy, refunds are at our discretion. The money goes back to the way you paid. The [Refund Policy](https://curtains.app/refunds/) has the details.

When a refund goes through:

- **The plan ends.** A Pro or Pro for teams subscription is cancelled, and you can't activate a new device or renew a pass.
- **Devices you already activated keep working until their pass runs out.** Curtains checks your plan on your Mac, so it can't be switched off from outside. Click **Deactivate this device** on Studio's Account page on each Mac to go back to Free at once.
- **Your settings stay.**

## Add seats

On a team plan, add seats in **Manage billing**. See [Teams](https://curtains.app/help/teams/).
